High Vacuum Transformer Oil Purifiers

The increasing voltage and rating of the modern transformer and electrical apparatus result in greater electrical stress in insulating material and fluids. To handle these greater stresses, transformer oils with better dielectric quality are required, and lower residual water content in insulation must be maintained.

The proper treatment and upgrading of the insulating fluid / transformer oil will result in the improvement of the properties of the entire insulating media of power transformers.

The principal functions of the insulating liquid are to serve as a dielectric material and an effective coolant. To perform these functions, the insulating liquid must have the necessary qualities at the time of initial impregnation and filling at the factory and later maintain the same quality in the field operation.

The Pro-Filtration High Vacuum Process upgrades the new or used electrical insulating liquids and transformer oil.

A High Vacuum Process is used for dehydrating and degasification of electrical insulating fluids (transformer oil) to increase and maintain their dielectric strength. The processing includes the removal of free and soluble water, free and dissolved air and gases, and particulate matter.

Transformer Oil Regeneration Systems

Restores transformer oil to like new condition. Removes acids, sludge and products of oxidation. These systems are typically used in conjunction with a degassing and filtration system. And, are designed to fit in a 20’ or 40’ cargo container for ease of transport.

Fullers Earth Systems

Used to correct total acid number (TAN) and correct color, we offer cartridge vessels or bulk style tower systems.

Cold Traps

During the restoration of a transformer, it is extremely important to remove as much moisture as possible from its internal components. This is accomplished by isolating the empty transformer so that it can be placed under vacuum.

Under these “blank off” conditions, vacuum is pulled down to 0.25-1 torr for an extended period of time. Water will be vaporized and pulled toward the vacuum pumps; with moisture temperatures above 60-70°F. The longer the transformer is left under this condition, the dryer it gets.

The cold trap is used to help the operator in determining that point and which the transformer has reached sufficient dryness. The operator can end the process with confidence as the process can be recorded from time to time by freezing, metering and comparing the amounts of moisture trapped in the cold trap.


Low Vacuum Oil Purifiers

Dehydrate, filter, remove carbon from transformer and insulating oils.
Remove water, particulate, light end volatiles and entrained air from lubricating, hydraulic and gear oils.

Pro-Filtration low-vacuum oil purifiers are offered in two service categories: Dehydrate, degas, and filter transformer and other insulating oils.  Moisture removal rates are typically <10 ppm.

Secondly, Pro-Filtration’s Pro-Vac Series of vacuum dehydrators are offered to remove water, particulate and light end contaminants from lubricating, hydraulic, gear and other industrial oils.

Pro-Vac systems include filtration to remove particulate contamination below 1 micron using multi-layered micro glass, ßx(c)≥1000, filter media. Micron efficiencies range from 25µm down to 1µm in order to attain any desired ISO Cleanliness Code.

We manufacture various sizes to process any size reservoir, tank or transformer. Our systems are available in trailers for mobility. Sizes range from 3 gallon/minute to 70 gallon/minute.

Standard Systems Include:
1. Low watt density fin tube heaters create maximum surface area for rapid oil heating without damaging the oil. Heaters are protected by a flow switch that will de-energize the heaters in loss of flow conditions. Any over temperature thermocouple offers secondary protection against thermal damage.

2. The vacuum chamber is the central vessel of a vacuum dehydrator. We offer large void space volume and permanent random packing to create massive surface area so that the oil, as it is cascading through the packing, is exposed to the vacuum conditions as long as possible. A secondary benefit to this packing is that there are no filters / dispersal elements to change, thus lowering your cost of operation.

3. Instrumentation for unattended operation.

4. Centralized NEMA 4 Control Panel and Gauge Panel to provide the operator with information needed to insure proper operation of the system.

5. Automatic foam control system.

6. Air Cooled Condenser properly sized to condense vapors to liquid under vacuum conditions. Water drops out in a condensate tank to keep moisture from collecting in the vacuum pump.

7. High quality Industrial Filter Vessels with swing bolt closures for ease of filter change outs. Filter elements utilize the latest micro glass filter element media sourced by the top media producers in the USA to insure ßx(c)≥1000 efficiency as per ISO 16889. Dirty filter light(s) alert the operator when filter element change outs are needed.

8. High quality welded pipe braced and flanged where possible.
